Nominations open for women making a difference in regional WA

• Nominations are open for the Rural Remote and Regional Women’s Network of Western Australia reference group.

• Members represent communities across the state.

Regional Development Acting Director General Paul Whyte today called for nominations for the reference group of the Rural Remote and Regional (RRR) Women’s Network of Western Australia.

Mr Whyte has encouraged all women, who want to make a difference to their community, to nominate themselves to be a part of the influential board.

“The group comprises of women from a wide range of backgrounds, skills, geographical areas and industry sectors. This diversity is vital to ensure the RRR Network is in touch with developments across WA regional communities,” he said.

“The network and its members are very important contributors to a range of discussions on issues directly affecting regional people and their communities. I urge all interested women to nominate by the closing date.”

The RRR Network was established in 1996 to bring together women from rural and remote areas of Western Australia to recognise, promote and expand the contribution they make to their communities.

“As part of the reference group, women have an excellent opportunity to meet with an extended network of people from around the State, promote regional initiatives and events, highlight current issues in their communities, help expand the RRR communication network, contribute to the RRR Network magazine, and provide strategic direction,” said outgoing RRR Chair Ms Leonie Noble.

The reference group meets twice a year in Perth to review activities and to develop future strategies for the RRR Network. Additional web-based meetings are also held during the year.

Reference group chair and members will be appointed by the Minister for Regional Development for a term of up to three years, from early 2015.

Nominations close Monday 30 September 2014 and forms can be accessed online www.rrr.wa.gov.au.
