Ninth AusIMM Open Pit Operators’ Conference 2016

Event - Ninth AusIMM Open Pit Operators’ Conference 2016

WIMnet-WIMKAL breakfast and conference grant

WIMnet and WIMKAL will be hosting a breakfast at the Ninth AusIMM Open Pit Operators Conference in Kalgoorlie in November. We would like to encourage female participation as both presenters and conference attendees.

To this end a WIMnet Conference Grant is available, which may be awarded to a female presenter based on merit and need. The grant covers the cost of conference registration, but does not include travel or accommodation. The successful applicant need not be an  AusIMM member, although preference will be given to members. Successful applicants must first have their abstract accepted by the organising committee.

Women interested in applying for the complimentary conference pass should submit their application via email to the WIMnet secretariat, Donna Edwards who will forward it to the WIMnet subcommittee responsible for the selection process. Applications should be no more than 300 words and should explain how the applicant meets the selection criteria and why they are applying.

In addition, WIMnet have a number of members experienced in conference presentations who are available to offer advice on presentation skills should an applicant be interested in their assistance.

Abstract Submission Deadline Extended!

Submissions close: Monday 29 February 2016

‘Adapting to Change’ is an ongoing requirement of business improvement to be successful. In some cases, this means constantly revisiting existing or historical operations, streamlining mine planning/scheduling to deliver improved outcomes based on the changed economic requirements. This may involve contraction or expansion of operations/equipment or different transitions between open pit and underground mining to drive productivity and efficiency in mining.

OPO2016 will provide an opportunity for the collective exchange of ideas and recent learnings on these issues between industry, suppliers, innovators, marketing, regulators and all stakeholders.

You’re invited to submit an abstract on one or more of the following themes by Monday 29 February 2016.

Conference Themes

  • Automation and technology
  • Stockpile management
  • Blast fragmentation and other mine to mill issues
  • Geotechnical issues, advances and pit design
  • Transition to underground, crown pillar design, cutbacks
  • Energy efficiency
  • Owner operations versus contractor operations
  • Life of mine and mine closure
  • Stakeholder engagement and social licence to operate
  • Regulatory requirements and better practices

How to submit an abstract

Submit an abstract not exceeding 300 words, in English to the Speakers’ Portal.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be required to prepare a full paper, which will then be subject to peer review and will be published in the conference proceedings volume. Authors are required to register and attend the conference to present their papers.
