Cailli Knievel, WIMWA Summit Presentation – ‘Seizing opportunity vs questionable decision making: How to tell the difference.

The WIMWA Summit provides an opportunity to hear stories from a variety of women working in the mining and resource sector, Cailli has had an interesting career. Rather than a more traditional approach of a linear progression from a graduate program through a series of step changes and into more senior roles with WA, Cailli has sought, and had offered to her, opportunities to use her skills to have an adventurous life while working in mines around the world. This has led her to ponder on the topic of seizing opportunity vs questionable decision making, and on the day the audience was lucky enough to hear her conclusions. After receiving extraordinary feedback about Cailli’s performance, we are very pleased that she has agreed to share her presentation below.

After attending the West Australian School of Mines in Kalgoorlie Cailli graduated with honours and was employed by Newcrest as a Mining Engineer at their Telfer Operations for five and a half years. After a stint in Kambalda, Cailli moved to working for Datamine out of Perth: providing technical support and training in Indonesia, Australia, Turkey and China. This was the begining of Cailli’s international career and she grasped an opportunity and moved to the UK in August 2005 working across Europe and Eastern Europe; Central and Eastern Asia; Africa and the Middle East. In 2008, Cailli began working in Southern Spain for Iberian Minerals but by 2010 she had moved to a small village outside Oviedo in the Principality of Asturias in Northern Spain and was employed as Jefe de Planificacion by Kinbauri El Valle-Boinas. Most recently Cailli has moved back to the Southern Hemisphere, taking on the challenge of Argentina she is now working as Technical Services Manager for Troy Resources.
