Mindful mining – WIMWA Summit Presentation David Michie

David has written many books about the practise of mindfulness, including Why Mindfulness is Better Than Chocolate, and The Dalai Lama’s Cat series. As the best-selling author of a series of books featuring cats, it is a surprise to many to discover that David Michie’s name is pronounced ‘Mickey’ like the mouse. At the recent WIMWA Summit, David gave a thoughtful presentation  that highlighted the importance of the practise of mindfulness and gave a practical demonstration – it is amazing to see a group of over 550 people engage in a mindfulness exercise all at the same time.

David regards his principal qualification for teaching mindfulness  is that he is not a meditation guru, unengaged from the business world, but someone who makes a living as a corporate consultant. In managing the challenging demands of a portfolio of clients, he has found in the practice of mindfulness a way to optimise productivity, minimize stress, and cultivate an enduring sense of wellbeing. More information about David Michie, his books, Mindful Safari and training – along with some excellent (and free) guided meditation sessions – can be found here.

This week is Mental Health Awareness week in Australia, and there is significant evidence that incorporating a mindfulness practise into your life can be successful in helping people with mental and physical health problems, from stress, depression and anxiety to chronic pain, eating disorders and concentration, boost our productivity at work, and give us a greater enjoyment of life. It is not surprising to note that in Mindfulness is a central theme for the week more information here and about the excellent UK program here.
